Calories

Calories are simply a measurement of energy. Calories tell you how much energy is in the food that you are eating. It’s important to only take in the amount of calories that your body needs. This can change based on several factors including; age, activity level, weight and sex.

Several foods are very high in calories while providing limited nutritional value. Calories on their own aren’t bad, but eating a lot of high calorie foods that provide little or no nutritional benefit can lead to obesity. Make your calories count by eating foods that provide a lot of “bang for their buck” for example; fruits and vegetables provide a lot of nutrients for fewer calories than a slice of cake.
