Vida Plena Study: Peering Through the Lens of Cancer Survivorship

Hispanics are the largest, fastest growing, and youngest minority population in the United States. To explore the unique experiences of Hispanic cancer survivors and their caregivers who live on the Arizona-Sonora border, AzCPCRN researchers initiated the Vida Plena study in 2020 in partnership with Mariposa Community Health Center. Vida Plena - meaning full life - used a two-part mixed-methods approach to understand the nuance and depth of patient experiences and collected data using semi-structured interviews and Photovoice.

Students Learn Healthy Habits with UArizona Project Healthy Schools (PHS)

Project Healthy Schools, an evidence-based childhood obesity prevention program, began its fourth semester in February 2020 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School. 

Undergraduate and graduate students from the UArizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health lead 10 sessions on developing healthy eating and physical activity habits. Through service-based learning, 24 UArizona students have dissminated PHS to over 200 middle school students. 

Mujeres y Niñas Sexuality Education Program in Nogales, AZ

On February 1, 2020, Lindsay Bingham (Health Educator, Sr.) and YWCA Southern Arizona staff and promotoras trained several advocates from Mariposa Community Health Center in Nogales, AZ. 

Six teen advocates, 2 adult advocates, and 1 program manager were trained in the 13-week Mujeres y Niñas (Mamas e Hijas) curriculum and learned facilitation and evaluation strategies. Mariposa Community Health Center plans to implement in March. More updates to come!
